2019 Buick Envision Review
Already in its 4th model year but still somewhat of an unknown commodity in the premium compact SUV segment, the 2019 Envision has been thoroughly refreshed and better positioned to take on the likes of the Acura RDX and Lincoln MKC. Adopting the brand’s signature grille replete with resculpted fascias and new wheel designs visually evolves the Envision into a more recognizable Buick. The base powertrain continues to be the pairing of a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and 6-speed automatic transmission in either front- or all-wheel drive. But those with a little more lightning in their veins will appreciate the 2.0-liter turbo – now mated to a new 9-speed automatic transmission with a sizeable increase in torque output from 260 pound-feet to 295. This makes the Envision nearly a half-second quicker to 60mph than before. Gas mileage remains rated at 22mpg in combined driving though slightly downgraded on the highway to 25mpg. Engine Stop/Start technology is used to conserve fuel and now comes with a deactivation switch for driver preference as does the Adaptive Cruise Control which can now be switched to conventional cruise control. Braking performance has also been improved. And taking a page from Nissan’s playbook, there’s now a Tire Fill Alert feature that lets the driver know when a tire has reached its recommended pressure level. Other changes include enhanced visibility on the Rear Vision Camera, an improved hands-free microphone, heated seats that warm up more quickly, next-generation wireless charging compatible with the latest iPhones, an in-vehicle air ionizer and exterior lighting upgrades on all trims. Available in 5 trim levels, pricing starts at around $34,000 and top out in the mid-40s.
