2016 BMW X1 Review

Now in its second generation, BMW’s smallest and most affordable Sports Activity Vehicle incorporates a body design more typical of a BMW SAV, a roomier interior and premium technology. At launch, the X1 xDrive28i is the exclusive model with a carryover powertrain utilizing a twin-scroll turbo-4 mated to a an 8-speed automatic transmission. Mileage of 26mpg combined on premium gas and a 0-to-60mph time of 6.3 seconds remains unchanged. The engine has been slightly detuned, now producing 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque accompanying a weight reduction of 66 pounds. An optional M Sport Package contributes a sport transmission, aero kit, M steering wheel and sport seats. This 2016 X1 is slightly shorter and taller with greater rear seat leg room and luggage volume. With the reengineered all-wheel drive system now standard working in conjunction with the X1’s 7” of ground clearance, xDrive can route up to 100% of the engine’s power to the rear wheels providing greater off-road confidence in addition to enhanced cornering dynamics in all weather and road conditions. The chassis technology has been totally redeveloped to reduce weight and increase rigidity contributing to an agile and comfortable ride. Leatherette and real leather interiors are offered along with a plethora of optional equipment and packages ranging from the rather basic heated front seats to the sophistication of navigation with a touchpad controller, head-up display, BMW Online and BMW apps. A parallel parking assistant is also an option. Pricing starts at $35,795 while a fully equipped model tops out at about $48,500.
