2019 Hyundai Santa Fe Review

Going on sale this summer, the all-new 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe becomes the brand’s 5-passenger SUV, dropping the Sport name. The larger 3-row model has been renamed Santa Fe XL. This new 4th generation Santa Fe offers an all-new family-oriented interior with enhanced cabin space and more cargo room. Improved areas include the infotainment screen that can be tilted and positioned to reduce glare, widow switches and grab handles moved forward for more elbow room, door map pockets reduced in size for more legroom and cup holders in the center console repositioned for ease of use. Three new powertrains are offered including a new 2.2-liter turbodiesel, producing 190 horsepower and 322 pound-feet of torque. The diesel model exclusively offers an occasional-use 3rd row seat with one-touch folding second-row seats for easier access. Rounding out the engine offerings are a 185 horsepower 2.4-liter 4-cylinder and a 2.0-liter turbo producing 235 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. All 3 are mated to a new 8-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional on all 6 Santa Fe models with Normal, Sport and Smart settings providing a more agile feel when desired by sending more torque to the rear wheels. Hyundai says they’ve improved ride comfort, handling and stability through key suspension changes including an optional load-leveling setup that provides a continuous ride height while towing or carrying heavier cargo. Complementing the vast safety features is something called Safe Exit Assist, temporarily preventing the doors from being opened when a vehicle approaches from behind even when the doors are unlocked. A heads-up display and Hyundai’s latest navigation system is offered on higher level trims while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. Pricing has yet to be announced.
