2019 Subaru Forester Review

Coming this fall to Subaru’s sizzling hot crossover lineup is the next generation Forester. Its longer wheelbase affords more rear seat legroom while gains in headroom, hip, and shoulder room further bolster occupant comfort and a feeling of spaciousness. Passengers and parents alike will appreciate the wider rear door openings and a steeper C-pillar making the car both more accessible and easier to install a child seat. There’s increased cargo space with the rear seats folded and the load floor sits flatter and the rear gate opening is much wider permitting a full-size golf bag sideways without tilting it. Roof rails are standard on all but the base model with a plethora of Subaru accessories available for items such as bikes and kayaks. All Forester models are powered by the familiar 2.5-liter 4-cylinder BOXER engine with a slight increase in output: 182 horsepower and 176 pound-feet of torque. Don’t look for the Turbo XT model or manual gearbox however – both have been deleted. A CVT is the sole transmission. There is a new Sport model however with an exclusive Sport Sharp drive mode and paddle shifters. For 2019, all Foresters come standard with EyeSight Driver Assist Technology while the top of the line Touring model debuts DriverFocus – a system that can alert the driver of fatigue or distraction. Pricing will be announced closer to launch.
