2018 Subaru WRX Review

Based on the previous Impreza platform, Subaru is keeping their racy WRX fresh with performance, comfort and safety upgrades for 2018. A restyled front fascia sports a more aggressive look, the suspension has been optimized for better handling and ride comfort, the interior features upgraded materials and a quieter cabin, and Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology includes a new monitor, displaying status and alerts directly onto the windshield. A new optional Performance Package for the WRX Premium features Recaro front seats with 8-way power adjustability, red-painted brake calipers and upgraded JURID brake pads, and deletes the moonroof to reduce weight. Subaru says they’ve significantly enhanced shifter feel for the 6-speed manual transmission, with a new synchro design, along with smoother clutch take-up. The electric power steering was also revised to provide an even smoother, more natural feel, while reducing weight. The WRX Limited features redesigned LED Steering Responsive Headlights that help illuminate curves in nighttime driving and for greater versatility, all trim levels now feature new roof rack mounting brackets. Its 268-hp, 2.0-liter turbocharged BOXER engine, All Wheel Drive and Active Torque Vectoring make it a favorite in the high-performance AWD sport-compact segment. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard while a Sport CVT with manual mode is optional. Gas mileage is best with the stick shift, rated at 23mpg on premium. Three trim levels are offered with a starting MSRP of $27,855.
