2018 Volkswagen Beetle Review
For the beloved Volkswagen Beetle, iconic design never goes out of fashion. And for the 2018 model there’s a new special edition with classic touches. It’s called the Beetle Coast. It features a unique Deep Sea Teal exterior color option, a surfboard wood-look dashboard with integrated Beetle bin storage, houndstooth cloth seating surfaces, all-season Monster Mats, scuff plates and Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Traffic Alert. Based off of the entry-level S trim, the Coast carries an MSRP of $23,970 while the convertible costs about $3,700 more. The other big news for 2018 is the switch from a 1.8-liter turbo to a 2.0-liter turbo. This is not the rambunctious unit found in last year’s Beetle R-Line, instead it delivers similar output to the 1.8-liter motor – making 174 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque - while taking gas mileage from 24mpg to 26mpg in city driving. A 6-speed automatic is the sole transmission. Whether it’s the Beetle S, SE, Coast or Dune there’s a choice of coupe and convertible models. For the 2018 model year, Beetle models come with the VW’s People First Warranty, a six-year or 72,000-mile bumper-to-bumper Limited Warranty, which can be transferred to subsequent owners throughout its duration.
