2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack Review
The wagon variant of VW’s highly acclaimed Golf compact is the SportWagen; a top pick for its combination of practicality and affordability. Now, that front-wheel drive car is capable of even more with the introduction of the all-new 2017 Golf Alltrack. With an elevated ride height of 0.6”, the addition of 4Motion all-wheel drive and rugged exterior styling, the Alltrack provides a viable alternative to the small SUV while presenting a more engaging driving experience. It’s equipped with the XDS+ Cross Differential System from the GTI, acting like an electronic substitute for a mechanical limited slip differential helping improve handling and cornering performance. The Alltrack also features a unique Driving Mode Selection that enables an Off Road setting with hill descent control accompanied by special navigation system displays such as a compass, steering angle and altitude. With its own unique suspension tuning and a 1.8-liter turbocharged engine making 170 horsepower and 199 pound-feet of torque, the Alltrack blends on-road driving fun with nearly 7” of ground clearance to allow for confidence off the beaten path. It’s launching with a 6-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission while a 6-speed manual will be available early next year. The Alltrack offers the same spacious passenger and cargo volume as the SportWagen and a larger fuel tank to offer a greater range for adventure. Starting at $26,670 for a manual-equipped Alltrack S and culminating with the Alltrack SEL with DSG for $33,710, VW’s latest wagon is prepared to go farther.
